Bridge Crew Revival

Online multiplayer for Star Trek: Bridge Crew on PC, no Uplay required. Crews meet over Steam: no account, no server to run.

Quit the game, then paste this into PowerShell:

irm https://demigodrick.github.io/bridge-crew-revival/install.ps1 | iex

Then launch the game from Steam as usual.

What the installer does

  1. Finds Star Trek: Bridge Crew in your Steam libraries.
  2. Downloads BepInEx 5.4.23.5, the mod loader, from its official release and checks the file before installing it.
  3. Sets the one BepInEx option this game needs to start.
  4. Downloads the latest Bridge Crew Revival release, checks it, and copies it into the game.
  5. Downloads Vosk and its small English model (about 55 MB, checked) for voice commands, recognised offline on your PC.

Run the same command again to update. Prefer to read it first? install.ps1 and install.sh are short. There's also a zip with the same scripts on the releases page.

Playing together

Everyone in the crew needs the mod. Whoever starts the game hosts it on their own PC; the others connect to them through Steam.

Quick match
Joins any public crew with a free seat, worldwide. If there isn't one, you host a public crew that the next player finds.
Custom lobby
A private crew for friends. Answer yes to "Open the room for public matchmaking?" in the briefing room to let strangers in too.
Friends panel
The shuttle console lists your Steam friends. Pick one to join their crew or invite them to yours. Works in VR.
Steam
Friends can use Join Game on you in their Steam friends list, and Steam invites work from the overlay.
Room browser
Press F7 on the desktop window for public crews and join by code. It also shows your crew's share code (like YZZDK9-EU-1Q2W3E4): anyone you give it to can join, even a private crew, without being your Steam friend.

Tested with real crews

Players have joined each other's crews over Steam, talked over voice chat, and flown missions together, including the Revival missions. It's still a young mod: if something breaks, open an issue with your BepInEx/LogOutput.log.

What the mod adds

Besides getting crews back together, the mod adds to the game itself.

Revival Missions

A third mission category in the briefing room, next to Campaign and Ongoing Voyages. Step through its missions with the arrows; your whole crew sees the choice.

Last Stand
Endless, growing waves of Klingons, pirates and Romulans, with a flagship every fifth wave. Your ship is repaired and restocked between waves. How long can your crew hold out?
Fleet Battle
Lead 24 battle-worn Starfleet ships against a Klingon or Romulan fleet of 30, with waves of reinforcements. Fleet size is a setting.
Patrol
A mission that never ends: Starfleet sends you from system to system to hunt raiders, defend freighters, rescue survivors, and walk into the odd ambush. Repair and restock at space stations between assignments.
Stellar Evacuation
Perseph's star is about to erupt. Beam the station's people out of escape pods a group at a time, ferry them to the USS Raleigh at Quarantine and go back for more while raiders pick at you, then warp out before the blast. How many can you save?
Free Roam
The developers' own exploration mission, left in the game: no hostiles, just space.

Crews and comfort

In VR
Public crews on the shuttle's newsfeed and in the escape menu, your Steam friends on the shuttle console, and invites, all without taking the headset off. The crew lists show how many players are online.
Host drops
If the host's game goes, the crew regroups in the briefing room under the next player instead of everyone landing back at the main menu.
Your settings stick
Your avatar, options and progress are saved on your PC (the game only ever saved them on Ubisoft's servers), with a one-time import from Ubisoft.
Passwords and blocking
Lock a public crew with a password when you open it in the briefing room. Kick a player and you can block them from your crews; players you've blocked on Steam can't join either.
Romulan faces
A ROMULAN choice for female characters in the character creator; your crewmates see it too.
Small things
Skip the launch videos and the mic check, a chime when someone joins your crew, crew filters, an update notice when a new version is out, and F10 to save a bug report. Switch them on and off in REVIVAL SETTINGS on the shuttle console (where Select Region used to be).
Voice commands
The captain's spoken orders are back, recognised on your PC instead of IBM's discontinued Watson service. As captain, hold V (or the voice button) and say "Red alert!", "Make it so" or "Beam the survivors aboard" (every command). Turn it off with VoiceCommands = false in BepInEx/config/stbc.revival.cfg, the mod's settings.

Voice commands

As captain, hold V (or the voice button) and give an order. The mod listens for key words, so word order doesn't matter much and the phrases below are examples, not scripts. If it can't make out an order, the crew says they didn't catch that.

Questions

How do I update?

When a new version is out, the mod tells you on the shuttle. Quit the game, then run the same command you installed with. Windows, in PowerShell:

irm https://demigodrick.github.io/bridge-crew-revival/install.ps1 | iex

Linux, in a terminal:

curl -fsSL https://demigodrick.github.io/bridge-crew-revival/install.sh | bash

It replaces the mod with the latest release and leaves everything else as it is: your avatar, settings and voice-command files stay, and parts already installed aren't downloaded again. Installed from the zip? Download the new zip and run its install.cmd or install.sh.

Everyone in a crew needs the same version, and the crew list only shows crews on yours, so ask your crewmates to update too. Steam invites and Join Game tell you if a crew runs a different version.

Do I need a Ubisoft account or Ubisoft Connect?

No. The mod skips the Ubisoft login entirely.

Will I keep my avatar and settings?

The game only ever saved them on Ubisoft's servers. The installer offers to copy them over once, while Ubisoft's servers are still up. Make sure Ubisoft Connect is signed in and answer yes; the installer starts the game.

When the controller selection prompt appears, choose your controller. The game only connects to Ubisoft after that. Your save is then copied within a minute or two, and the game closes by itself. After that the mod keeps your settings in a local file. To do it later, run the installer again with --import-save (Linux) or -ImportSave (Windows).

Can I play with PlayStation VR or Quest players?

No. Consoles and standalone headsets can't load mods, so it's PC with PC only.

Can I get banned on Steam for this?

Bridge Crew has no anti-cheat, and the mod only uses Steam's normal friends, lobbies and networking, the same features other games use.

Does voice chat work?

Yes. The game's own voice chat works between crew members; it travels over the same Steam connection as everything else.

The game shows a black screen or hangs at "Loading".

Run the installer again; it resets the BepInEx setting that causes the black screen. On Linux, check the launch option is set. The log is BepInEx/LogOutput.log in the game folder; include it if you open an issue.

Can I run an always-on server instead?

Yes, there's a Docker server for communities. See the README.

How do I uninstall?

Quit the game, then run the install command again: when the mod is already installed it asks whether to update it or remove it. Or remove it straight away. Windows, in PowerShell (or double-click uninstall.cmd in the zip):

irm https://demigodrick.github.io/bridge-crew-revival/uninstall.ps1 | iex

Linux, in a terminal:

curl -fsSL https://demigodrick.github.io/bridge-crew-revival/install.sh | bash -s -- --uninstall

This removes the mod and turns BepInEx off. On Linux, also clear the launch options. Your settings, avatar and voice-command files stay in the game's BepInEx folder, so reinstalling picks them up again without downloading the voice files; delete that folder to remove everything. The game then goes back to your Ubisoft save, as it was before you installed the mod.
